We were schoolmates in UPIS in 1992. I went to your corridor to share Hello Panda. I remember your seatwork. You remember the Hello Panda.

Saw each other next in 2004, where you displaced my bag to sit next to me in French. You were forced to I think, your seat was taken. I remember having to squeeze my bag into the narrow space beside the door. Mildly surprised at the intrusion.

Realized we were also at the Archery Range at roughly the same time each day.

Joined the UP Archer's Club. (Well you did, I couldn't as I was always away from practice.)

Became really good friends, one of my very best in fact.

Told me that you were joining a frat, told you that I would kill them if they hurt you. I believe it involved boiling marrow and molten lead. We can check YM records for this.

Joined said frat and disappeared from my life for three years, minus random yms, meetings and one exchange of pasalubong. Still condidered you the brother I never had, as you did call me. Sister rather, and best friend.

Fate managed to throw us together again last year, I forget why. Not complaining. After reminiscing the olden times, bonding over Star Wars and Sci-Fi and movies, eating out at new places, and a lot of general confusion on my part, there we were.

And here we are.

Well folks, it's that time of year again. KATEOBERFEST! Once more a month long celebration of anything and everything Kate. Tagging Kate for cake applies once more, so tag away.

Just one problem.

I'll be in Germany next week until the week after next, effectively being away on the very day of my birthday. I know that Germany will be fun, and three degree weather will be even more fun, and Kateober + actual Oktoberfest will be interesting to say the least, but spending my birthday away from you guys and my Jeriel is very, very sad.

Some things cant be helped. In any case, i'll have my laptop (free wifi at Estrel Hotel Berlin) and as always i'm on permanent international roaming. Text if you miss me, you know i'll be happy.

When I think of you I think of random texts, long ym conversations, shared donuts and cake and music and books (and lechon!), mutual panic and prompt reassurances, secrets that are to be kept, fun times exploring unknown territory, philosophical, moral, and political disagreements that only serve to make us discover something new, and plans, plans, plans for the future.

Yes, the future. Know that cliché “friends are forever”? Well, I don’t see why not. Our kids will be friends even.

You guys are simply the best. I couldn’t ask for more. *love*
